Rogers Hospitality, leading African signatory to the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative.

Pioneering in sustainable practices for the local hospitality industry, Rogers Hospitality has joined the United Nations Global Tourism Plastics Initiative for the Environment, thus becoming the first African signatory.

The initiative, with over 142 signatory organisations around the world, seeks to rally the tourism industry around a common vision to address the underlying causes of plastic pollution.

Eco-friendly alternatives

“The devastating effects of plastic, both on land and in the sea, and on our ecosystem and food chain is now widely known. Rogers Hospitality, as an environmentally conscious company, aspires to be a pioneer in the Mauritian industry by leading by example. This process will be long and tedious, as it involves our partners and suppliers,” says Thierry Montocchio, CEO of Rogers Hospitality.

A study conducted by Rogers Hospitality in 2022 revealed that 25 single-use plastic products will be eliminated. To date, a series of 15 environmentally responsible alternatives have been identified.

“We aim to step up our recycling efforts by improving our waste sorting system, and to reduce packaging waste through bulk food sourcing. Another key focus is to support local initiatives to address plastic pollution in rivers, beaches and the ocean,” says Alexandre Piat, Sustainable Development Manager at Rogers Hospitality.

For over a decade, Rogers Hospitality, hotels and leisure arm of Rogers Group, looks forward to working towards a better environment. This commitment was reinforced in 2021 with the introduction of its sustainability pact, ‘Now for Tomorrow’. The company is listed on the stock exchange and offers a wide range of products.
