Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita is celebrating two years of partnership with the global marine conservation and education specialist, WiseOceans. Located in the Ile aux Cerfs Lagoon, the resort is known for its dedication to protect marine life and conserve the beauty of the ocean. Striving towards a global future with healthier oceans, WiseOceans’ three core strategies are to educate, to conserve, and to involve.
Developed by WiseOceans, a Marine Discovery Program provides the opportunity to its guests to go on snorkeling excursions with a Marine Educator and learn about marine creatures of the surrounding waters. The program also encourages guests to meet at the Bambou Beach and engage in marine life conversation. A continuous screening of the coral reefs’ health is also carried out by WiseOceans as part of the Resort’s wider Environmental Conservation Program and the collected data is submitted to global databases.
The Four Seasons resort and WiseOceans have collaborated to bring a better understanding of the importance of a healthy ocean. Over the past two years, the achievements of the program providing onsite marine education to guests has included:
- 721 guests joining educational and engaging guided snorkels
- 177 snorkels conducted on the reef in the nearby lagoon, teaching guests about the creatures that live there
- 20 snorkels conducted in the mangroves surrounding the Resort to discover the diverse marine habitat
- participation in several local workshops and events, plus visits from local school children to learn about the lagoon’s marine life
- attendance at the African Marine Waste Conference in South Africa to represent Mauritius in discussions about the problem of plastic wastes in our ocean.
“ Our team is extremely passionate about the oceans and sharing this enthusiasm is what we do best, inspiring others to admire and protect the seas and all the life within them, and empowering people to take steps to protect this precious environment,” commented the Director of WiseOceans, Lindsay Sullivan on the two-year partnership.
As for Rick Bonnier, the Marine Educator, he explains that, “With the support of the Resort, every day I share my knowledge of our marine environment here in Mauritius with a new audience, whether I am talking with a Resort guest, a member of staff, or even out in the local community.”
Founded in 2011, Wise Oceans believes that education through programs, such as their world-class ocean outreach activities, as well as the innovative restoration projects are the way to bring awareness and understanding of the ocean and its marine life.
Luxury Mauritius wishes you a wonderful stay at Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita, and encourages you to learn about the protection and conservation of our beautiful lagoons through their programs.
