The first step of the 8th edition of MCB Tour Championship 2018 has taken place from the 7th to the 9th December last. And no other golf course than that of the Legend at Constance Belle Mare Plage could have better flattered the world-renown and international golf stars present. And such a great event had to be matched by famous participants!
International golf players in Mauritius
The importance of such an event has been underlined by Jean-Jacques Vallet, CEO of Constance Hotels, Resorts & Golf, at the press conference on the 4th of December:
« The MCB Tour Championship has become a well-awaited event on the world golf tournament calendar. (…) Moreover, we are celebrating the 10th consecutive year of collaboration with the Mauritius Commercial Bank and Staysure Tour for the organisation of what has become the most important golf event of the region, broadcast in more than 50 countries in 360 millions households ».
To showcase their talent, some golf star players have competed in duos at the ‘Skins Game’ just before the press conference: USA (Tom Lehman and Clark Dennis) ; the UK (Paul Broadhurst and Barry Lane) ; France (Jean-François Remésy and Mark Farry) ; South Africa (David Frost and Chris Williams), and Mauritius (Raoul Gufflet et Sébastien Pilot).
This pool of talents – more than 40 of the best golfers of Staysure Tour Order of Merit as well as pros having obtained a wild-card – has then started the actual competition from the 7th to the 9th of December for the first step of the Indian Ocean Swing. It is Clark Dennis who finally won the competition in Mauritius. He scored a total of 193 (-23 under par) matching the tournament and the Constance Golf Legend record achieved by Thaworn Wiratchant last year. He had 8 shots ahead of Swedish Magnus P. Atlevi who settled a score of 201 (-15 under par).
« I am delighted to have won the competition and to have lived this experience here in Mauritius. In fact the island is probably one of the most beautiful ones I have visited in my career. I thank everyone for the welcome including Constance hotels for the extraordinary task of providing the best conditions for this tournament », has underlined the winner.
The Indian Ocean as a winner
Now, the second step will be held at the Constance Lemuria, on Praslin Island, in The Seychelles, from the 14th to the 16th of December. For this second phase, 29 of the best golfers and 3 wild-cards will compete to win the famous John Jacobs Trophy, which crowns the best player of the season.
A feat for the Indian Ocean and for international golfing! Luxury will follow closely this second event.
