Harness your passion to help others… This is the challenge set by the Sun Resorts group to support sick children. By holding an annual charity competition at Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club, the hotel group raises public awareness and funds to support the children of Victoria Hospital in Candos, in their fight against illness. Insight into this wonderful initiative.
On Saturday 10th of October, a unique golf competition will be played on the course of Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club: the SUNCARE Charity Golf Competition. This tournament, held for the fourth consecutive year, aims to bring together golf enthusiasts around a good cause, namely to raise funds to help children suffering from cancer and to support their families.
This charity competition is an 18-hole scramble tournament, featuring teams of four players. Despite the unusual circumstances prevailing in 2020, 96 players have registered for the event! All profits raised will be donated to the Sun Children Cancer Fund, created in 2008 which covers the upkeep of the children’s cancer unit at the Victoria Hospital in Candos. More than a hundred children are treated there every year.
Last year the Foundation raised almost Rs 1.7 million, which made it possible to renovate the building accommodating the Cancer Ward for Children as well as the nursery and playroom. This year’s objective is to surpass this sum to strengthen the care provided to the children. The Sun Children Cancer Fund’s objectives also include using the funds raised to set up an accessible transport system; a school support programme; the financing of care for children from vulnerable families; and a programme called “Dokter Kloun” to offer some magic and joy to hospitalised children.
François Eynaud, CEO of the Sun Group, expresses his pride in trusting the solidarity of the event’s clients, partners and sponsors: “In spite of 2020 being a difficult year for all of us, these children and their families experience much more difficult moments in their lives and we hope to be able to relieve them as much as possible, thanks to the donations and the time spent by our teams on site.”
Besides receiving exceptional prizes offered by the competition’s sponsors, participants can be proud to stand up for a cause that is essential to our country.
