To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the LUX* group invited us to live a memorable experience at its new hotel on the northern coast of the island in Grand Baie. Here is how things unfolded!
Welcome to paradise…
As a valet parks the car and takes our luggage, we are welcomed in the lobby with a refreshing cocktail. The blue sky and the enthralling ocean view immediately trigger the taste of what is in the offing: a unique experience in paradise!
The all-attentive and caring staff welcomes us with a warm smile and guides us to our room. After a brief about the hotel’s infrastructure and the services offered, we are ready to enjoy our stay!
Right away, we are drawn by the hotel’s authentic setting. Conceived and designed by Mauritian architect Jean-François Adam and designed by British interior designer Kelly Hoppen, the decor harmoniously blends natural materials with neutral textures and colours and is furnished with refinement. Besides its breathtaking backdrop, we are charmed by the ultra-modern and high-tech room with automated shutters and curtains, or the options of ambient lighting, adaptable to our moods…
The highlight of the bathroom is the bathtub and rain shower, inviting us to pamper ourselves with therapeutic baths… Finally, a sprawling king-size bed in the middle of the room calls for unmatched slumbering comfort. It’s so cosy that it’s hard to get out of it! But we keep moving as we don’t want to miss out on the other experiences offered by the hotel.
Where life is meant to be relished…
At dinner time, we head for the AI KISU restaurant. The decor and atmosphere here are completely singular. The restaurant, whose walls are adorned with modern Japanese art, offers numerous tasty dishes inspired by Asian cuisines. Once seated, you can watch an exquisite show through the glass-panelled kitchen. The cooks are using cane straw – the Warayaki method- for cooking… We end up becoming happy onlookers to a magnificent play of flames during our tasting session.
A gratifying gourmet escapade is proposed to titillate our taste buds: a sumptuous plate of fresh sushi and dumplings to be downed with a glass of sake… A Soy sommelier expounds the importance of choosing the right sauce… A real delight!
By 7pm the twilight inches in. To enjoy the show, we head up to the rooftop bar and restaurant, BISOU. From its infinity pool to its mind-blowing view over the lagoon, this captivating place transports us to a mesmerising world… Some guests start dancing as the musicians start playing their sprightly music, while others enjoy their tapas: oysters, ceviches, fruity cocktails… To end the evening with gusto, a wave of flavours, coupled with a hushed atmosphere permeate the whole place.
After a good night’s sleep, the shutters are raised. The weather is splendid, and we can’t wait to enjoy it. We are expected to savour an à la carte breakfast at the BEACH ROUGE with Bohemian-chic décor and lit up in an electric-red colour. The restaurant offers different meal options – morning, midday and evening. An amazing choice that includes vegetarian and vegan dishes, finally lead us to opt for a continental mini brunch: pancakes, hash browns, sausages, baked beans, bacon and eggs… Copious and absolutely delicious!
… And where we lose ourselves!
A bright sunny day with the promise of leisure and relaxation in perspective! While we hesitated where to start, we finally opted for kayaking in the bay.
And if you want to simmer down, head to the LUX* ME Spa. The Turkish hammam is not operational due to Covid-19, but zenitude is still on the cards thanks to the sensorial experiences offered.
