A walking trip and a myriad of snapshots to discover Mauritius… Paul Choy, the famous British photographer of Mauritian origin, is about to embark on a great adventure on 1st of July 2020, thanks to the “Walk Mauritius” project. Discover this exceptional photographic tour, made possible through by crossing the country on foot with 20 stages for a whole month. An exhibition to savour the beautiful pictures of this impressive photographic journey shall follow.
A walking tour to explore the Mauritian tropical charm
Equipped with his mirrorless digital camera, Paul Choy will stroll around towns and villages for a whole month, and tell the story of his native island. He underlines:
“With Walk Mauritius, my objective is to delve into Mauritius and its stories, narrated by the ocean, the earth, the mountains and the inhabitants of the island through pictures!”
The documentary photographer, who has witnessed the natural beauty of over 50 countries around the globe, wants now to highlight the beauty of his own homeland: a multifaceted island, with a luxuriant nature and a picturesque population!
A journey set into twenty stages, during which Paul Choy will invite a person to join, guide and accompany him. He shall share his encounters and his snapshots on social networks and on the project site, www.walkmauritius.com, to allow the whole world to discover all the splendours of Mauritius.
Why a walking journey? The photographer confides: “Modern transportation has changed with advances in technology, relegating it to a momentary itinerary rather than an experience. For me, the journey itself has always been as important as the final destination. Walk Mauritius is a way to reconnect with this pleasure of discovery, one step at a time, after months of confinement. From Grand Baie to Bel Ombre via Tamarin and Trou d’Eau Douce, my plan is to follow the coastal road in twenty stages to reach the North again at the end of my adventure. I do not want to miss any marvellous scene!”
A great adventure, in partnership with Sanlam, Axess, Fujifilm, Constance Hotels & Resorts and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority.
Paul Choy, portrait of a passionate photographer
Curious by nature, he has developed a taste for photography “by accident”. Paul Choy was born in the United Kingdom to a British mother and a Mauritian father, and decided to settle in Mauritius in 2010. The talented photographer has travelled to more than 50 countries, covering six continents, and has collaborated with numerous renowned suppliers in the fields of travel, hospitality and tourism. He is also an ambassador of Fujifilm Global Brand for Fujifilm X-Series cameras–the only one in Mauritius.
Paul Choy is inspired by the world around him, the people he meets, and the places he visits. He concludes:
“The world is an incredible place… I have seen and photographed so many extraordinary sites and human emotions. Even when I think that I have seen everything, something new fascinates and inspires me again. ”
The first day of this walking tour shall start on the 1st of July at 10h45 ( in Grand Bay, in front of Grand Baie Store commercial centre). See here: https://goo.gl/maps/F4BsA6Rx3RuBY2qZ9
