We exclusively introduced Adamah last month, an art gallery showcasing 15 world famous artists in Mauritius. A lot of events are scheduled in order to spark interest and create buzz for art in Mauritius. An event, dedicated to contemporary art, has been organised and on that occasion, the artworks of Peruvian artist Mariela Garibay, will be featured.
Who is Mariela garibay?
Mariela garibay is considered as a renowned artist. Born in Lima,, she studied sculpting at the University of Peru. Afterwards, she obtained her master’s degree in drawing, in Barcelona. But her academic success does not stand as her only asset. Mareiela Garibay’s artworks is a subtle blend of love and language, which she tends to vehiculate through her creative process. She gives much importance to the sense and the message that she wants to transmit via her artworks. Very patient, she takes her time to think between designing her drawing and realising her sculpture.
Thanks to all her qualities and skills, she was rewarded twice with the Winternitz award and won the first prize in a national drawing competition in 2015. Her sculptures represent naked and curvy childish characters. Sometimes made of marble, sometimes of green copper or black ebony, her artworks are evocative of the world around her. She conceptualizes simple moments life from a mature and positive perspective.
