Indika: A pioneer in the nutraceutical sector in Mauritius

Our grandmothers were right: plants are the best cure! In December, a new economic sector—nutraceuticals— emerged in Vallée de Ferney to contribute to improving health. This initiative is thanks to the brand new firm, Indika.

The company’s mission is to further develop this new field, which seeks to promote disease prevention, to provide remedies and to strengthen the immune system. Nutraceuticals employ the medicinal properties of exotic and indigenous plants such as moringa, lemongrass, pomegranate, etc., found in the Mascarene Islands and in Africa.

Indika grows, processes and markets its plant-based products, while adopting a responsible, entirely local and integrated approach with minimal environmental impact. It values biodiversity and botanical heritage while offering customers natural products to relieve, cure or prevent disease. The firm has a nursery in the Ferney forest and a production unit for processing the raw material.

Reconnecting with the healing powers of plants

“There is a growing demand for natural, plant-based health products without chemicals or synthetics. We are in the process of rediscovering the many incredible virtues of plants. The pharmacopoeia of Mauritius and the Indian Ocean is impressive. We are proud to contribute to the development of this precious heritage,” says Dr Fabien Boullé, founder and CEO of Indika.

The products are available as powders, capsules, herbal teas and essential oil blends. They help to prevent and fight against diseases such as flu, liver congestion, diabetes, muscle pain, digestive disorders, insomnia, etc.
