Meilleur Ouvrier de Maurice Gastronomy Competition: 3 Beachcomber Chefs Selected

Three Beachcomber Resorts & Hotel chefs are in the spotlight, as they are among the 8 finalists of the prestigious gastronomy competition, the “Meilleur Ouvrier de Maurice” (MOM) – Mauritian craftsman of the year 2018.

3 Beachcomber Chefs for a final

Rishiraj Singh Hurnam of Royal Palm Luxury Beachcomber, Paramasudhan Murday Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa Trou aux Biches, and Veeren Pillay of Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa have brought a great deal to be proud of, as they are among the 8 finalists of the “Meilleur Ouvrier de Maurice” (MOM) competition, for the Gastronomy Category.

After a first selection, consisting of a theoretical test, out of the 48 candidates, this competition is now left with 8 finalists. The culinary event, for chefs and sous-chefs over 30, will not be an easy task for the finalists. As such, it will be made up of a challenge with the qualification and the final with a renowned jury made up of the French gastronomy’s specialists. There will also be a training, and a gala dinner, under the supervision of two of Bocuse’s disciples: Gilles Reinhardt (MOF 2004) and Christophe Muller (MOF 2000). The finalists will also be challenged in several fields as they will be evaluated on several criteria. In a nutshell, the candidates’ creativity, innovation and know-how are the assets on which they will be evaluated by the jury during this competition. Our finalists will have to use their noodles and spice things up for this high level competition.

MOFs’ brought to Mauritius

Inspired by the competition of the “Meilleur Ouvrier de France”, this Mauritian version of the contest, is organised for the first time here by the Vatel Business School, in collaboration with the MOF chefs from the famous Paul Bocuse house. As a reminder, Paul Bocuse, undisputed leader of French cuisine, is considered as “the pope of gastronomy”, or the “chef of the century”. He won the MOF in 1961, year during which he also won the French “Légion d’honneur”. In 1987 he also launched the Bocuse d’Or, considered as the greatest achievement since sliced bread in terms of a gastronomy contest. He has been shining brightly in all corners of the world, before passing away at the beginning of this year.

The Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels group is the main sponsor of this event, and the 2 French chefs, who will be with us for this competition, will be hosted by the Beachcomber group, which will also host the finals of the competition at Canonnier Beachcomber and the Gala dinner at Shandrani Beachcomber. This competition will take place on October 3rd, and by then, our finalists will have a lot to prove if they are eager for victory!
