Mon Trésor Smart City: A glimpse into the future

Omnicane, a Mauritian flagship company, took on the challenge of building the first Smart City of the Southern Hemisphere holding the BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification. A project that will feature sustainable designs and an efficient use of resources.

Strategically located near the airport, Mon Trésor Smart City will be developed over 480 hectares and will comprise of a Business Gateway, residential precincts and leisure facilities.

Lights, camera… action!

Through a partnership with German Film Studios Babelsberg AG and Identical Pictures, Omnicane has embarked on a new and ambitious adventure: to build a state-of-the-art film studio, worthy of the world’s biggest production companies, in the old sugar factory of Mon Trésor. The project will comprise of five sound studios, a props workshop, office spaces, a trailer park and a parking zone, thus driving Mauritius under the international spotlight!

Babelsberg AG, owner and proprietor of film studios in Germany since 1912, is one of Europe’s leading film studios of this calibre. With a surface area of 27,000 sq. metres, the studio has overseen the production of a number of blockbusters: Inglorious Basterds, Point Break, The Three Musketeers, Beauty and the Beast, and Captain America, to name just a few.

The construction of the Film Studio is scheduled for mid-2019, and will be operational in early 2021. In the meantime, we can dare to dream big!

The Business Gateway: The place to work

Comprising three components, Mon Trésor Business Gateway will promote ease of business in the region due to its proximity to the airport, as well as its privileged access to airport facilities, the motorway and neighbouring amenities.

  • The Office Park which already houses private offices and co-working spaces dedicated to modern businesses willing to boost the Mauritian economy.
  • The Freeport Park which will extend over 24 hectares. A free trade zone that will offer an attractive tax regime and preferred access to international markets.

Drive and sustainability are at the heart of the residential component of Mon Trésor. This emerging city features villas, townhouses, apartments and penthouses. This contemporary development will also feature cycling tracks integrated to the complete street networks, allowing residents to move freely and safely while significantly reducing their carbon footprint. This will soon be complemented with schools, medical services, retirement villages, beach access, convenience stores and a beach club.
